For many years, cellular technologies have been an integral part of wireless technologies and continue to be widely used across various industries and products. RWTÜV subsidiary CETECOM has always been the go-to contact when it comes to testing and certification of products with cellular technology.
This is now also naturally the case with 5G, the latest publicly available cellular technology.
Through early investment in technical resources and expertise at all CETECOM locations, CETECOM has ideally positioned itself to support customers in testing and certifying products with 5G technology.

Products that rely on 5G technology, if in doubt, must not only comply with the regulatory requirements of local authorities but also obtain approval according to the requirements of network operators.
CETECOM's 5G services are therefore as diverse as the technology's requirements themselves. They start with consulting and training, include device testing, and conclude with the approval of devices for the customers' target markets.
Grid operator approvals
As early as January 2020, CETECOM was accredited to perform 5G conformity testing in accordance with the specifications of network operators. The underlying standards are defined by ETSI and 3GPP, among others.
These standards and test regulations form the basis for the necessary grid operator approvals, which are in the GCF Certification for the European region and in the PTCRB Certification are bundled for the North American market. They can be performed fully automated in the CETECOM laboratories.
Regulatory audits
Depending on the requirements of the target country or its applicable certification regime, products with 5G technology must undergo the following various tests related to
- Funk
- EMV
- Electrical Safety
run through. CETECOM conducts tests for 5G products in its own accredited laboratories (including in Essen) – among others, in accordance with the requirements of the Radio Equipment Directive for CE marking and the requirements of the FCC for market approval in the USA.
Certification based on EN standards (RED) and the FCC, by definition, only allows access to the EU and US markets. Therefore, further independent certification of products for other markets is necessary. However, the testing effort is manageable, as a large part of the provisions for international market access is based on the two certification schemes mentioned above.
The approval of products with 5G technology
In addition to testing your devices with 5G technology, CETECOM naturally completes the customer's project with international market approval. This includes approval by network operators or regulatory certification by authorities in their target markets.
Due to the expertise of the certification team, its own internal certification bodies, and the digital project management tool CERT, CETECOM is able to implement product launches in target markets quickly, transparently, and with a clear focus.
Based on specific customer requirements, CETECOM acts as an intermediary between the customer and local authorities in over 200 target countries, thus helping to reduce approval times and save costs when introducing products.
CETECOM – Your ideal partner for 5G
CETECOM is the competent contact when it comes to 5G – locally and globally. The team in Essen operates at the highest level, just like CETECOM colleagues in the USA, Korea, or Japan.
