RWTÜV subsidiary CETECOM is leading laboratory for E112 (emergency call) testing and certification

It has recently become clear, that smartphone manufacturers that want to sell devices in the European market will have to provide proof of conformity with Galileo, Wi-Fi, and AML (Advanced Mobile Location).

The legal basis for E112 (emergency call) is Regulation (EU) 2019/320, which supplements Article 3(3)(g) of the Radio Equipment Directive (RED) 2014/53/EU. Accordingly, manufacturers are obliged to transmit location information to emergency services as part of an emergency call, enabling rescue teams to reach the scene of an incident more quickly.

This EU regulation (EU) 2019/320 requires smartphone manufacturers to implement the E112 functionality starting March 17, 2022, and to declare the necessary conformity. This applies to new models and to devices already certified if new types enter the EU market after March 17, 2022. This puts mobile phone manufacturers under enormous time pressure to verify and document the conformity of their devices in a timely manner.

CETECOM therefore created testing capacities for this new functionality early on and is currently the world's leading laboratory for E112 tests.

To meet the short deadline due to the EU's time pressure, CETECOM has now established further mechanisms, in addition to the rapid build-up of testing capacities, to complete the tests more quickly.

While it is for the Galileo and AML tests a test solution since the required Wi-Fi tests need test solutions that must be designed and set up by the laboratories themselves. For this purpose, we have programmed a self-developed Android app that allows the necessary Wi-Fi tests to be carried out in a controlled and efficient manner.

CETECOM therefore continues to position itself as an efficient and leading partner for E112 testing. In addition to E112 testing, customers can also use the Notified Body to obtain their declaration of conformity from a single source.
